THE WORK I DO

(click + to learn more)

  • I offer individual therapy for children ages 6 years old to 12 years old who are navigating anxiety, life transitions, and challenges at home and school. I provide a safe, supportive space where kids can explore their feelings, build confidence, and feel truly seen and heard. Children often express themselves through words and actions. I use a person-centered and experiential approach, incorporating play, creativity, and interactive activities to help them process emotions in ways that feel natural.

Through this process, children build coping skills, emotional awareness, and self-esteem, while also learning ways to strengthen friendships and other relationships in their lives. I support kids in recognizing their strengths, communicating their needs, and developing practical tools for managing anxiety and other challenges.

Parent involvement is tailored to each child’s age and comfort level, and I collaborate with caregivers to support progress while maintaining the child’s sense of safety and ownership in the process. My goal is to help children feel comfortable showing up authentic in every space in their life, grow in confidence, and develop skills that support both their emotional well-being and relationships.

  • I offer individual therapy for teens who are navigating anxiety, life transitions, identity development, and fostering a variety of relationships. I provide a supportive environment where teens can speak openly about their experiences, explore their thoughts and emotions, and feel genuinely heard. My approach is person-centered and experiential, allowing teens to process emotions in ways that feel authentic while building insight and self-understanding.

In our work together, teens develop coping skills, emotional awareness, and confidence, while also strengthening their ability to communicate, set boundaries, and build healthier relationships with friends, family, and others in their lives. We focus on practical tools for managing anxiety, stress, and the pressures that often come with adolescence.

Parent involvement is approached thoughtfully and collaboratively, respecting the teen’s privacy while supporting communication and growth when appropriate. My goal is to help teens feel understood, develop confidence in who they are, and build skills that support their emotional well-being and relationships.

  • I offer individual therapy for adults navigating transitions in life, relationships, and the stressors of everyday life. My approach is person-centered and experiential, encouraging authentic reflection and becoming more grounded and present. I also integrate ecotherapy approaches, helping clients feel grounded and experience the restorative benefits of connecting with nature in their processing and self-reflection.

Adults of all ages come to therapy during a variety of stages of adulthood, looking to form deeper relationships, find purpose, or reflect on personal growth over time. The therapeutic work will explore themes of connection, purpose, and life direction.

Together, we build coping skills, confidence, and emotional awareness, while strengthening relationships and personal growth. My goal is to help you feel understood, reconnect with your strengths, and navigate adulthood with greater clarity, resilience, and intention.

  • I enjoy incorporating group therapy into my practice because it gives a space that is fresh. Group therapy offers a collaborative opportunity to connect, grow, and foster personal growth through shared experiences. I offer groups for children, teens, and adults, creating supportive spaces where group members can share experiences, learn new skills, and build meaningful connections with others who understand.

Groups may be skills-based, process-based, or a blend of both. Group members can learn practical tools for managing emotions, developing communication skills, and coping with stress, while also having space to reflect, share, and gain support from others.

My goal is to create a warm, collaborative environment where people of all ages can build resilience, deepen self-awareness, and experience the healing power of community.

ABOUT ME

A Passion for Connection to Self and the Natural World

Hi, I’m Kennedy, a Professional Counselor Associate. I’m passionate about supporting children, teens, and adults in developing a deeper connection with themselves and the natural world around them. I strive to create a space where you feel safe, supported, and free to explore what is arising within you, as well as the relationships that shape your life.

I believe that meaningful healing and growth often emerge through connection—to ourselves, to others, and to the environments we inhabit. My goal is to offer a grounded, compassionate presence where clients feel seen, heard, and empowered in their process.

My Path to Counseling

My path to counseling began during my undergraduate studies in psychology. During that time, I interned for a year at a therapeutic equestrian riding program, working with children and adults with cognitive, physical, social, and emotional needs. I witnessed the excitement, confidence, and personal growth that emerged as clients connected with horses, nature, and themselves. That experience deeply shaped my understanding of the healing potential found in relationships—both human and animal.

After completing my undergraduate degree, I continued working in outdoor and therapeutic environments with people and animals. I supported volunteers and contributed to developing programs and facilities at the nonprofit Forward Stride, a therapeutic equestrian center in Beaverton, Oregon. These experiences deepened my appreciation for community, resilience, and the strength individuals carry as they navigate new challenges and life transitions.

While earning my Master’s degree in Professional Mental Health Counseling from Lewis & Clark College, I completed certification training in Ecotherapy. This allowed me to expand my therapeutic work beyond traditional office settings and into nature-based environments. During this time, I supported children and adults navigating emotional and relational challenges through experiences on trails, under trees, and alongside horses and other animals. .

Experience and Approach

My practice is grounded in person-centered, relational cultural approach, and experiential approach in therapy. I view counseling as a collaborative process that honors each person’s unique cultural background, lived experiences, and inner strengths.

I also integrate ecotherapy principles into my work. I believe that relationships with the natural world can offer powerful opportunities for reflection, healing, and empowerment. Time spent in nature can help foster compassion, regulation, curiosity, and a deeper sense of connection—to ourselves and the world around us.

In sessions, I often incorporate ecotherapy practices and mindfulness-based strategies to support awareness of both internal and external experiences. Together, we may explore ways to build emotional regulation skills, strengthen self-understanding, and cultivate a sense of curiosity and compassion toward oneself. My hope is to support clients in discovering new insights, developing tools for navigating life’s challenges, and fostering meaningful connections in their lives.

Life Outside the Counseling Room

Before pursuing my career in counseling, I spent over three and a half years working with horses and people as a wrangler in Wyoming and at a therapeutic equestrian center in Oregon. These experiences shaped my appreciation for creating safe environments where people can learn, grow, and build confidence in both new and familiar spaces.

Outside of my professional life, I enjoy spending time outdoors and moving my body with family and friends. In every season, you can often find me exploring the mountains or the coast. Some of my favorite activities include backpacking, camping, running, rock climbing, horseback riding, and surfing. I enjoy a good book and hanging out with my cat, Goose, when it comes to rest and relaxation.

Here’s to connecting with nature, embracing growth, and fostering moments of joy in everyday life.
